"Lambdin is closing on Patrick O'Brian as the most prolific historical novelist to celebrate a Royal Navy mariner." —Washington Times
Dewey Lambdin presents a new short story, "Lewrie and the Hogsheads," starring the most colorful captain of the Royal Navy, Alan Lewrie.
Capt. Lewrie of the HMS Reliant has been stuck in Nassau Harbor, biding his time after ferreting out pirates on the coast of Spanish Florida. Until, that is, one of his brig sloops comes into harbor with an unexpected cargo of survivors from an American brig. Their ship, the Santee out of Charleston, South Carolina, has been taken by a Spanish privateer far down in the Bahamas near the Crooked Island passage.
With this news of more pirates at large, Lewrie has a chance to get out of dodge, have some fun, and maybe even capture a prize. But he's about to learn that there's another, much boozier side to the Americans' story.[Word Count 10,470, Approximate Pages 45]
"Lewrie's a worthy shipmate for Aubrey and Hornblower." —Kirkus Reviews
"Lewrie is an endearing character-hero, philanderer, smuggler, spy a courageous naval officer unencumbered by high morals or indecision." —Publishers Weekly
"You could get addicted to this series. Easily." —The New York Times Book Review
"The best naval adventure series since C. S. Forester." —Library Journal
"Stunning naval adventure, reeking of powder and mayhem. I wish I had written this series." —Bernard Cornwell

Dewey Lambdin is one of my favorite authors but I guess you get what you pay for. The material reads as if it is what was cut out of Reefs and Shoals as unnecessary. It didn't advance the story and it doesn't expose anything of importance about the characters. If you can imagine that an ongoing Caribbean operation filled with the tedium of daily life that exists, outside of the story told in the novels, then this is short story you're looking for. I appreciate all of the entertaining novels you've written Mr. Lambdin. I'll stick to them in the future and I look forward to Hostile Shores release.Product details

Hope to meet Lambdin one day and thank him for the tales of Lewrie. Condolences to him on the loss of Mosby. Losing an old friend, either two legged or four leaves a scar that takes a long while to heal. Rousing good tale here... Waiting for The KiNGS MAURADER...You got to wonder which of his sons is going to pass for Commison sea officer first....Hugh or Sewalis... What about Sir Hugo...It just gets better and better....A hand salute to the Standard and to the Quarterdeck....until we meet with Sir Alan once more....bring it on...Regards....BENJAMIN M. Horton, ROckville, Maryland..August 21, 2013.......
I grew up a fan of C. S. Forrester and have read every book that Lambdin has written...and there are a lot of them...but I still await each one as soon as it is released like a child waiting for Christmas. They may not be "classics" to the purist but they are pure enjoyment to me. Alan is Horatio with a sense of humor
I so enjoyed this book. The entire series is a joy. Mr. Lambdin is a top notch writer. A wonderful book. Highest possible recommendation!
Well-written short story to go with the Alan Lewrie novels (which are excellent). I recommend that readers start with Lambdin's first Lewrie novel and read them in order. It's easy to fall in love with the whole series!
For those hungry for a bit more Dewey Lambdin until his next novel comes out, this is just a bit of a taste. Likely proposed as a somewhat incongruous chapter in a previous novel based on some tangental research conducted by the author that was too good to waste, but something that ended up chopped from the galley proof. So why not take a flyer on a stand along publication to see what happens? A quick read and its OK.
Nice little story. And the publishers are fantastic because before I had a device that could get e-books, I e-mailed them, asking how to get a hard copy because I have all of the books. They said that it was only published as an e-book, but as a loyal reader of the series, they made me a Xerox copy and sent it free of charge. Now that is customer service to go with a great series.
A brief but apt story about Captain Lewrie's response to boredom while serving as acting Commodore in the Caribbean.
